Great Wine Capitals Global Network: Our new Best Of Wine Tourism Award winners for 2021 from Mainz and  Rheinhessen are fixed! The ten-member GWC jury, chaired by Mayor Michael Ebling selected the winners in six categories:

Wine Tourism Services
Kultur- und Weinbotschafter Rheinhessen e. V.
They form the city-to-country bridge – from Mainz to the region, cooperate closely with winegrowers and thus fulfil the idea for which Great Wine Capitals stands. Furthermore, they are extraordinarily service and guest oriented: the cultural and wine ambassadors of Rheinhessen. For their commitment and the many good ideas, the jury honored the tourism group of culture and wine ambassadors with the 2021 Best Of Wine Tourism Award in the category “Wine Tourism Service.” Learn more about Kultur- und Weinbotschafter Rheinhessen: www.kultur-und-weinbotschafter.de/rheinhessen

Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences
Wineflow, Flonheim

WineFlow stands for high-quality offers in Flonheim, which is well developed for tourism. Hotels, restaurants, excellent vinotheques and members of the Generation Riesling have joined forces to form WineFlow. “Trullo in Flames” e.g. is a wine hike through the vineyards around the village with six different stops.  Thus, guests can taste the variety of Flonheim wines – and for the variety of WineFlow’s offers the jury awarded the association with the 2021 Best Of Wine Tourism-Award in the category “Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences.” Lear more abut Wine Flow: www.wine-flow.de

Wine Tourism Restaurants
Pollers Häusje, Mainz-Gonsenheim

The jury praised the fantastic and intensive cooperation with winegrowers from Rheinhessen and the regional menu: The Pollers Häusje restaurant, furnished in a cosy country house style, is a place to arrive, refuel and enjoy – and now also a winner of the 2021 Best Of Wine Tourism Award in the category “Wine Gastronomy.” They also offer summer tours to the wineries of the whole region and cook on site. Accomodation
me and all hotel mainz, Mainz

“We live and love Mainz” – says the me and all hotel about itself and it shows this among other things in wine events, which the hotel realises together with the association “Die Mainzer Winzer”: From wine tastings in a cosy atmosphere to indoor market breakfasts.  Grapes around the room numbers, pictures of wine festivals in the elevators and on the corridors complete the wine flair of the modern hotel. A great approach, which the jury rewarded with the Best Of Wine Tourism Award in the category “Accommodation”. Learn more about me and all hotel mainz: mainz.meandallhotels.com/en.html

Sustainability in Wine Tourism
Weingut DREISSIGACKER, Bechtheim

The name Dreissigacker does not stand for light weights, but for particularly powerful, fine mineral and elegant wines. Sustainability was also the basic idea behind the construction of the new place of activity, which the jury honoured with a Best Of Wine Tourism Award in the corresponding category “Sustainability in Wine Tourism”. Thus, the winery is partly built into the slope so that the soil provides perfect air conditioning, a photovoltaic system on the roof provides the electricity. And the heating is powered by the dried pomace. A perfect cycle! Learn more about Weingut Dreissigacker: dreissigacker-wein.de

Architecture and Landscapes
Weingut Thoerle, Saulheim

In the middle of the Grand Cru locations Schlossberg, Hölle and Probstey, the Thörle Winery has created very modern pleasure rooms. The new Hofgut am Norenberg with its stylish vinotheque invites (inter)national guests in front of the glass front with limestone walls, walk-in wine climate control cabinet and barrique cellar to taste noble top wines at the granite wine bar: from Riesling to Pinot Noir and Silvaner. The jury honours the building and the view with the Best Of Wine Tourism Award 2021 in the category “Architecture, Parks and Gardens.” Learn more about Weingut Thörle: www.thoerle-wein.de
