Wine lovers and those interested in wine tourism have several options to pursue official degree programs and continuing education studies in the Rioja region.
The University of La Rioja in Logroño offers several undergraduate and graduate degree programs in viticulture, enology, marketing and sales of wine (in Spanish):
- Grado (Bachelor of Science) in Enology
- Master (MSc) in Viticulture, Enology and Wine Business Management. This program has four modules that can be studied separately:
- Expert in Enology
- Expert in Viticulture
- Expert in Wine Business Management
- Expert in Sensory Analysis
Ph.D program in Viticulture, Enology and Sustainability
The University of the Basque Country offers a ‘Master en Enología Innovadora’ (in Spanish) at its campus in Vitoria.
The Rioja Alavesa Enogastronomic Campus in Laguardia offers 35 courses and seminars focused on communication for wineries, wine tourism and Levels 1,2,and 3 of the Wine and Spirit Education Trust Course program (WSET). The WSET courses are offered in both English and Spanish.
The Rioja Regulatory Council’s Rioja Wine Academy offers a series of three online courses for wine lovers as well as wine and tourism professionals, available in English and Spanish:
- Rioja Wine Diploma
- Diploma in Rioja Wine Tourism
- Rioja Wine Diploma for Trade and Distribution
The Academy offers a Rioja Wine Certified Educator diploma for wine educators (available on application). In English.
The Álava Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Mondragon University and the Basque Culinary Center offers a 210-hour expert course in Marketing and Wine Tourism. The course, taught in Spanish, takes place in Laguardia.
