A broad group of stakeholders from across the technology, wine and mapping communities are collaboratively coming together in Adelaide to help make the next generation of digital maps of vineyards a reality.

The project is being run openly, and will be based on global open geospatial standards. The objective is to make the vineyard mapping ‘FAIR’ – Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.

Any interested groups from any of the Great Wine Capitals of the World are welcome to join the community via collabriculture.com or follow the project via twitter.com/collabriculture or linkedin.com/company/collabriculture.

The Open Vineyard Data Model project has been made possible through a South Australian Wine Industry Development Scheme grant, and will bring together everyone during 6 workshops for collective conversation and outcome creation, it will build community and mutual understanding of the needs of all of us, and that the process in itself will uncover opportunities for innovation, growth and development for the industry.

Each of the workshops will also be streamed online, and will bring in open mapping experts to share how they’ve solved similar mapping and spatial data model challenges in other industries such as creating the street maps of cities, or the learnings we can take from mining and aviation.
